Defining and Calculating Glare for Interior Spaces

Course description and learning objectives below:

This course addresses the evolution interior lighting trends in the context of the modern workplace. Since the advent of the LED age, our design considerations shifted to energy efficiency, lumens per watt ruled the design. As LED efficacies have improved, and energy codes have advanced meeting those requirements is a given. It’s time to refocus our design intent to the visual comfort of the occupants.

After completing this course you will understand how controlling glare, selecting the best type of fixture for the space, and taking new design standards into consideration are key to creating a comfortable workspace.

  1. Identify the trends in interior lighting, from parabolic troffer to led panel
  2. Recognize the design challenges inherent in the ever-evolving modern workspace
  3. Recognize the facts over fiction in marketing claims being made today about UGR (Unified Glare Rating)
  4. Apply the principles of the UGR standard to design visually comfortable workspaces
